HISD Superintendent Mike Miles revealed new details about his "New Education System" program, which includes reconstituting 29 struggling schools in mostly Black and brown neighborhoods. Administrators, teachers, and staff members at these schools will need to reapply for their jobs, which will be opened to any qualified applicant. Miles also clarified that established HISD teachers will not be reclassified as "teacher apprentices" or "learning coaches." Under Miles’ “hospital model,” teachers at those 29 schools would make an average of $85,000, in addition to a $10,000 stipend, while teacher apprentices and learning coaches would make less.
