A Penn State study of 292 families found that less attentive fathering at 10 months was associated with poorer heart and metabolic health in children at ages 2 and 7, whereas mothers’ parenting showed no such link.
The author shares her experience of co-bathing with her toddler and how it helped them establish a bedtime routine and promote body positivity and open communication. When her mother judged her for it, she questioned her decision but found support from other mom friends. Despite societal norms, she believed that co-bathing was natural and beneficial for her and her child. Eventually, they transitioned to separate bathing spaces as her son grew older, but she remains proud of her parenting choice and the lessons it taught them both.
