"Paizo's Groundbreaking Rulebook: A Bold Departure from D&D"

Paizo, the publisher of Pathfinder Second Edition, has released its first new rulebook since breaking free from Dungeons & Dragons' intellectual property. Titled "Howl of the Wild," the rulebook introduces new creatures and character templates, with a focus on evoking the wonder and curiosity of Sir David Attenborough's narrations. The book features creatures like the Apothecary Bee, which can drain potions from players and buff allies, and the Thrunosaurus Rex, imbued with unnatural powers. Additionally, the rulebook includes six new playable ancestries and introduces werecreatures with a nuanced system for creating them. "Howl of the Wild" will be available in May 2024.

"Pathfinder 2e: Mastering Wizardry without D&D Influence"

Pathfinder, a tabletop role-playing game, has released remastered rulebooks to distance itself from Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and avoid future licensing conflicts. The changes include renaming mechanics, fictional languages, and character ancestries, as well as introducing new dragons tied to different sources of magic. Paizo has also created its own alternative to the D&D Open Gaming License called the Open RPG Creative License. The remastered rulebooks redefine key elements of D&D, such as replacing alignment with edicts and anathema, and simplifying ability scores. The revisions also address criticisms of Pathfinder 2E, making the game more accessible and inviting to players.

Paizo unveils draft of new open RPG license.

Paizo has released the first draft of its Open RPG Creative License (ORC) in collaboration with intellectual property law firm Azora. The ORC aims to allow for common game mechanics to be spread across the wider tabletop space and be used without fear of infringing on a company’s copyright. Paizo has also released a draft of its FAQ for the document and is seeking feedback from the public until April 21. The company intends to wrap up the entire process by the end of April if possible.
