Ava DuVernay Parts Ways with Warner Bros. TV

Ava DuVernay has ended her overall deal with Warner Bros. Television Group, which was set to expire on May 31. The contract talks were unrelated to the ongoing writers strike. DuVernay signed the multi-year agreement in 2018, which was reported to be valued at $100 million, following the parties’ successful collaboration on OWN’s “Queen Sugar.” Under the pact, DuVernay produced several TV series, including “Cherish the Day,” “Home Sweet Home,” “DMZ,” and “Naomi.” She is currently executive producing a half-hour romantic drama for Starz, starring Joshua Jackson and Lauren Ridloff.

Ava DuVernay's overall deal with Warner Bros. TV is ending in May, but there is no drama and it was a mutual decision. DuVernay is currently focused on post-production for her film Caste and has not announced where she plans to move her television deal. She signed a five-year deal with the studio in 2018 worth around $100M and produced eight series under that agreement.

"Dick Wolf's TV Empire: Renewals, Extensions, and Missed Opportunities"

Universal Television has extended Dick Wolf's overall deal at the studio for two additional years, under the same financial terms and featuring new series commitments for scripted and unscripted shows. With this extension, Wolf's deal now runs until 2027. All nine of Wolf's current broadcast scripted series are locked in for next season, and he has a goal of presiding over 12 hours of broadcast scripted programming. Wolf is currently developing Dark Woods, the murder mystery Wolf Entertainment scripted podcast, as a scripted series for Universal Television.
