The lead writer of Baldur's Gate 3, Adam Smith, revealed in an interview that the original plan was for the character Orin to always target the player's romantic partner for kidnapping in Act 3. However, this idea was changed due to its unpopularity among players. The current version of the game allows Orin to kidnap certain characters, such as Halsin, Minthara, Gale, Lae'zel, or Yenna if none of them are present in the player's camp. The change was made to avoid forcing players to confront a powerful enemy immediately after the kidnapping.
