"Oscar Shortlists Unveiled: 'Barbie' Dominates, Surprises and Snubs Abound"
The Oscar music branch has released its shortlist of 15 original scores and 15 songs for possible nomination at the 96th Academy Awards. Notable inclusions are three "Barbie" songs, two songs from "The Color Purple" and "Flora and Son," while "Wonka" and "Wish" failed to make the cut. The list also features songs from artists such as Jarvis Cocker, Sharon Van Etten, Lenny Kravitz, Olivia Rodrigo, and Metro Boomin. Veteran composers John Williams and Thomas Newman are among the nominees for original scores. Nominations voting begins on January 11, and the final nominations will be announced on January 23.
