
Massive International Dark Web Drug Bust Results in Nearly 300 Arrests.
The US Justice Department and FBI announced the arrest of nearly 300 people in a three-continent operation targeting darknet trafficking of fentanyl and opioids. The operation, called "Operation SpecTor," resulted in the seizure of over 850 kilograms of drugs, including 64 kilos of fentanyl or fentanyl-laced narcotics, 117 firearms, and $53.4 million in cash and virtual currencies. The Sinaloa and Jalisco drug cartels were singled out as particularly harmful to Americans. In 2021, a record 107,622 Americans died from drug poisoning or overdose, with 66% linked to synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
