Ars Technica reports Doombuds, a hack by Arin Sarkisan, lets the PineBuds Pro earbuds run Doom by wiring a JavaScript interface to stream a heavily compressed MJPEG video from the earbuds’ UART pads to a web server, using a 1.7MB squashware Doom build to fit into the device’s ~4MB flash and ~1MB RAM; a Twitch stream controls sessions via doombuds.com, demonstrating that inexpensive, open‑firmware earbuds can run a classic game.

Star Labs Unveils StarLite: The Linux Tablet That Rivals Microsoft's Surface

Star Labs has unveiled the StarLite, a Linux tablet that can also be transformed into a laptop with the addition of a magnetic keyboard. The device features a 12.5-inch touch display, a quad-core Intel Alder Lake N200 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5 memory, and a 512GB PCIe SSD. It supports various Linux distributions and comes with open-source firmware powered by coreboot and edk II. The tablet is not yet available for purchase but is expected to be priced around £597, with an early order discount currently available.
