CVS to Close Hundreds of Stores in Major Restructuring Plan
CVS has announced plans to close 300 stores by the end of 2024 and an additional 600 stores by 2027, amounting to around 10% of its total shops. The decision is part of a retail overhaul as more consumers shift towards online shopping and amid rising levels of shoplifting. CVS cited factors such as local market dynamics, population shifts, and store density when deciding which stores to close. The company aims to transform its remaining stores into healthcare destinations and expand its digital presence. Rival pharmacies, including Rite Aid and Walgreens, are also closing stores as part of cost-saving strategies.
