Canada school shooting: online footprint exposes obsession with violence and gore
CBS News reports that 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar, who died by a self-inflicted gunshot after the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting, left a troubling online footprint showing a progression from gaming posts to interest in firearms and graphic gore on WatchPeopleDie; ISD analysts traced accounts back to 2019 and linked a Roblox mass-shooting simulation to the case. Roblox said it removed related content. Experts warn that isolated teens can find validation in dangerous online spaces, creating echo chambers that may contribute to violence. The attack killed six people and is Canada’s deadliest school shooting since 1989.
