Firework Injuries Surge in Multiple Cities, Hospitals Over Holiday Weekend
Dozens of people were admitted to Omaha hospitals with injuries from fireworks during the Independence Day weekend. Nebraska Medicine treated 10 patients from July 1-4, while Omaha metro and Lincoln ERs for CHI Health treated 28 patients in the same time period. Dr. Zach Bauman, trauma medical director at Nebraska Medicine, emphasized the importance of following safety directions when handling fireworks and advised against letting children light them. Despite the weather keeping people indoors, the number of injuries from fireworks remains a concern.
