Katie Ledecky Surpasses Phelps with Most Individual World Championship Gold Medals
American swimmer Katie Ledecky broke Michael Phelps' individual world championship gold medal record by winning her 16th title in the women's 800-meter freestyle. Ledecky now holds the record for the most individual gold medals at the world championships. She still trails Phelps in Olympic gold medals but needs only three more to climb into second place among all Olympic athletes. Ledecky's next target is the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
