Hostages Freed in West Africa After Years in Captivity
French journalist Olivier Dubois, who was held hostage in the Sahel for nearly two years, has returned to France and was greeted by his family and President Emmanuel Macron. Dubois and US aid worker Jeffery Woodke were freed and arrived in the Niger capital, Niamey, on Monday. Dubois was kidnapped in Mali on April 8, 2021, and was held by the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (GSIM), the main jihadist alliance in the Sahel, which is linked to Al-Qaeda. The details of their release remain unclear.
