"2023 Gaming Trends: Majority of Playtime Dominated by Older Titles"

A new report by Newzoo reveals that over half of the game time in 2023 was spent on just 66 specific games, with 20% of that time spent on games other than those mentioned. Notably, a significant portion of playtime was dedicated to games at least six years old, with titles like Fortnite, League of Legends, GTA 5, Minecraft, and Roblox accounting for 27% of all playtime. This trend poses challenges for new game developers, as evergreen titles and robust content pipelines continue to dominate the gaming landscape, making it increasingly difficult to grow a game's playerbase.

Ubisoft Ceases Online Services for Multiple Assassin's Creed Games and More

Ubisoft is shutting down online services for older games like Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, along with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Trials Evolution, on January 25, 2024. The publisher cited the outdated technology behind these services as the reason for the decommissioning. Players will no longer be able to access multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts, use online features, or collect Ubisoft Connect rewards for the affected games.
