The Okaloosa County sheriff in Florida has stated that the drowning of former NFL quarterback Ryan Mallett in Destin was a tragic accident and not caused by riptides, refuting earlier reports. Authorities confirmed that Mallett was one of six individuals struggling to return to shore, and despite efforts by lifeguards and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Patriots, Texans, and Ravens, Mallett's former teams, along with coach Bill Belichick and former teammates Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, expressed their condolences. Mallett, 35, was in his second season as head coach at White Hall High School in Arkansas.
