Oregon Officer Killed in Line of Duty, Suspect Arrested

Joseph Johnson, a reserve police officer in Nyssa, was shot and killed while on duty. Johnson had an extensive history of community service, including working as a volunteer reserve officer, a firefighter, and a therapeutic counselor. He also taught criminal justice and psychology courses as an adjunct instructor at Treasure Valley Community College. Johnson was pursuing a suspect when he was shot and killed. He is survived by his wife and two children. The Nyssa Police Department is working with the Oregon Fallen Badge Foundation to provide financial assistance to Johnson’s family.

Suspect arrested in fatal shooting of Oregon police officer.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting of an Oregon reserve police officer, Joseph Johnson, who died after being shot by a man he pursued in a car. The shooting occurred after Johnson responded to a report of a violent person damaging property and threatening people at a house. The suspect eventually pulled over and began shooting, hitting Johnson while he was still in his car and before he had time to return fire or defend himself. The suspect has not been charged yet.

Arrest Made in Fatal Shooting of Oregon Reserve Police Officer.

The suspect in the fatal shooting of Nyssa reserve police officer Joseph Johnson has been arrested at a home in Ontario, Oregon. Rene Castro, 36, was taken into custody by the Oregon State Police SWAT team and other agencies. Johnson died after being shot by a man he had pursued in a car. Castro fled the scene and Johnson was dead when sheriff's officers and medical workers arrived. The investigation is ongoing, and more information may be released later. Governor Tina Kotek has ordered flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff until sunset April 17 in honor of Johnson's sacrifice.
