New York City experienced severe flooding over the weekend, prompting Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency. Heavy rainfall caused roads to turn into rivers, basements to flood, and trees to uproot and damage cars. Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan were the hardest-hit boroughs. Transportation was severely affected, with drivers stranded and subway terminals and airports flooded. Many basement apartments were also flooded, forcing residents out of their homes. Despite the chaos, no fatalities were reported. In a lighter note, a sea lion at the Central Park Zoo briefly escaped its enclosure due to rising water levels.
