
"New USGS Video Unveils Northridge Quake Intensity"
The U.S. Geological Survey released a "Shake Movie" visualizing the intensity of the 6.7 magnitude Northridge earthquake that struck Los Angeles 30 years ago, with the imagery showing the quake's spread across the Southland and its impact felt over 2,000 miles away. The earthquake, which occurred on January 17, 1994, resulted in 57 fatalities and property damage estimated between $13 billion and $50 billion.
