Tesla's NACS connector gains widespread adoption in EV charging networks

Electrify America, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, has announced that it will add Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector to its fast charging networks in the US and Canada by 2025. This move aligns Electrify America with Tesla's EV charging standard and aims to increase vehicle interoperability and streamline public charging. Hyundai Considers Adopting Tesla's Charging Standard.

Hyundai is considering making its vehicles more compatible with Tesla's North American charging standard, which Ford and General Motors have already made deals with. Hyundai's CEO said the company would need to determine customer interest before joining the alliance of automakers shifting to the Tesla standard. Tesla's network of superchargers does not charge Hyundai's electric vehicles any faster than other chargers, but by opening its charging network to other EV brands, Tesla qualifies for roughly $7.5 billion in subsidies provided by the Biden administration to speed up the deployment of chargers in the US.

GM Joins Ford in Adopting Tesla Charging Standard for EVs

General Motors (GM) will adopt Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) for its electric vehicles (EVs) starting in 2025, according to CEO Mary Barra. The move will allow GM EV drivers to use Tesla's 12,000 Superchargers located throughout North America from early 2024. Barra said the collaboration could help direct the EV industry toward a single North American charging standard. GM's Ultium Charge 360 initiative currently offers more than 134,000 chargers for its EV drivers. The announcement follows a similar agreement between Tesla and GM competitor Ford.
