Cuba Gooding Jr. Settles Rape Case Out of Court.
Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. settled a $6 million civil suit filed against him in 2020 by an anonymous woman who accused him of raping her in 2013 at a New York hotel. The settlement was reached just before jury selection was set to begin. Gooding's lawyers argued that the encounter was consensual. The case would have also brought to light testimony from three other women who accused Gooding of nonconsensual sexual encounters. Gooding has so far avoided two trials for his alleged offenses, and after six months in treatment, he was permitted to retract his plea and plead guilty to noncriminal harassment.
