Nigerian Navy and Tompolo's Surveillance Firm Clash Over Oil Thieves

Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, a government-contracted oil pipeline surveillance firm, has accused the Nigerian Navy of preventing its personnel from arresting suspected oil thieves. The firm claimed that the navy arrested four of its staff who were chasing the suspects on the high seas towards a naval base. 16 hostages rescued from pirate attacks off West Africa coast

Six crew members who were kidnapped by pirates from the Liberian-flagged Monjasa Reformer off the Republic of Congo last month have been rescued in Nigeria. The tanker was found by the French navy off the coast of Sao Tome and Principe in the Gulf of Guinea. The shipping company did not specify if any ransom was paid. Pirates have long been a risk in the Gulf of Guinea, but since 2021, shippers say pirates have been raiding farther out in international waters.
