Nick Cassidy's victory shakes up Formula E's debut in Portland.

The first Formula E race at Portland International Raceway saw Envision Racing’s Nick Cassidy take the win after a strategic battle for top spot that saw positions and race leaders change corner by corner in groups five and six wide at points, resulting in 403 passes during the race. Cassidy led several times before making a decisive move to the front past the TAG Heuer Porsche of António Felix da Costa on the 28th of the 32 laps. Jake Dennis finished second, becoming the new world championship leader by a single point over Cassidy.

Formula E's Debut in Portland: Winners, Losers, and Economic Boost.

Envision Racing emerged as the biggest winner at Portland's Formula E debut, with Nick Cassidy claiming his third win of the season and Sebastien Buemi finishing fifth, inching the team closer to Porsche in the teams' standings. The Formula E World Championship series made its debut at Portland International Raceway with barely noisier electric cars than a bicycle race. Nick Cassidy won the inaugural event at PIR, holding off pole sitter Jake Dennis. The field of cars raced in tight groups, particularly down PIR’s front stretch, where they were occasionally four across the track. The difference between Formula E and NASCAR and IndyCar is a greater percentage of international fans. Formula E is scheduled to return to Portland in 2024.
