WGA LA Awards Canceled as Staff Strike Persists; NYC Ceremony Set to Proceed
The Writers Guild of America West canceled the 2026 Writers Guild Awards Los Angeles ceremony due to a staff strike, with an alternative LA celebration to be scheduled later; the Writers Guild Awards East in New York will go ahead on March 8, with Roy Wood Jr. hosting and Stephen Colbert receiving the Walter Bernstein Award. The non-supervisory staff union demanded higher wages and “just cause” protections, and members urged the guild to bargain in good faith so future disruptions can be avoided. Ticket refunds for LA attendees will be issued.
