Russia's Nuclear Submarine Successfully Test Launches Bulava Intercontinental Missile
Russia's new nuclear-powered submarine, Imperator Alexander III, successfully test launched the Bulava ballistic missile, designed to carry nuclear warheads. The intercontinental missile was launched from an underwater position in the White Sea and hit a target thousands of kilometers away on the Kamchatka peninsula. President Vladimir Putin has been emphasizing the importance of maintaining Russia's nuclear deterrent amid strained relations with the West. The Borei class strategic-missile cruiser is equipped with 16 Bulava missiles, and the navy currently has three submarines of this class in service.
