Australian journalist Cheng Lei returns home after release from Chinese detention
Australian journalist Cheng Lei has returned home after being released from detention in China, where she had been held on national security charges for over three years. Cheng, who was a business television anchor for Chinese state television, was accused of sharing state secrets with another country. She arrived in Melbourne and has been reunited with her children and family. The release follows the completion of legal processes in China. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese welcomed her home and expressed hope for improving relations with China. However, concerns remain for another detained Australian journalist, Yang Hengjun.
