A new COVID-19 variant, BA.3.2 nicknamed cicada, has been detected in at least 25 U.S. states. First identified in South Africa in 2024, US cases rose starting in September 2025, with detections coming from travelers and wastewater. The CDC says the mutation may help the virus evade antibodies and appears highly transmissible, though symptoms resemble other COVID variants. The Pima County Sheriff's Department said DNA from gloves found near Nancy Guthrie’s home was entered into CODIS but produced no matches. Additional DNA evidence at the Guthrie residence is still being analyzed, and Guthrie’s family has been cleared as suspects. The FBI has increased the reward for information to $100,000 and investigators are appealing for tips as the search continues.
Buc-ee’s plans to open what it says will be the world’s largest convenience store in Fort Pierce, Florida, a 76,245-square-foot complex with 120 gas pumps, 18 electric-vehicle charging stations and more than 700 parking spaces. Construction could take about two years, with a late-2027 or early-2028 opening; officials expect the project to boost the local economy and create more than 175 jobs. Buc-ee’s already operates in Daytona Beach and St. Augustine, with Ocala planned.
