Tragic Loss as Russian Climber Presumed Dead After Mountain Ordeal
Russian climber Natalia Nagovitsyna, stranded on Kyrgyzstan's Pobeda Peak since August 12 after breaking her leg, has been confirmed dead by thermal imaging drone footage, ending hopes of rescue amid severe weather conditions and logistical challenges. Her ordeal began after summiting Pobeda as part of her quest to complete the Snow Leopard challenge, but worsening weather and the death of her companions thwarted rescue efforts. Her body is now expected to be recovered in spring 2026.
