Bath Shipyard Secures Multiyear Deal to Construct 9 Destroyers, Navy Keeps Pricing Confidential

The US Navy has awarded multiyear procurement contracts to Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) and General Dynamics Bath Iron Works to build a total of nine Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. The contracts, which run from fiscal 2023 through 2027, do not disclose the value due to potential competition between the two firms for additional vessels. The Navy saved $830 million by purchasing the ships upfront through a multi-year contract deal. The Arleigh Burke-class destroyers are the backbone of the Navy's surface fleet, and HII and Bath Iron Works have collectively built the entire fleet.
