Chennai's Industrial Landscape and Urban Planning Wake-Up Call: Dealing with Cyclone Michaung's Aftermath and Floods
Chennai's industrial landscape is grappling with the aftermath of Cyclone Michaung, with large-scale units resuming operations while MSMEs face crippling losses and neglect. The Vichoor SIDCO estate, home to 110 companies, has been severely impacted, with floodwaters submerging whole industrial units and causing extensive damage. Larger companies, particularly in the IT sector, have faced minimal damage and have been able to restart operations. However, MSMEs under the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation have suffered greater damages and disruption. The disparity in recovery highlights the challenges faced by smaller industries and the need for inclusion in disaster relief frameworks.
