"Long-Term Relief: MRI-Based Treatments Show Promise for Severe Depression"
A major clinical trial, BRIGhTMIND, has shown that MRI-guided Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) significantly eases symptoms of severe depression for at least six months, with over two-thirds of participants responding to the treatment and a fifth achieving sustained remission. The study's success has led three NHS Mental Health Trusts to offer TMS services for treatment-resistant depression, offering hope for longer-lasting symptom relief with potentially just one or two treatment courses per year. This research marks a substantial advancement over previous TMS treatments and demonstrates the potential for sustained improvement in depression, anxiety, and cognitive function.
