Microsoft Abandons Windows Mixed Reality Platform
Microsoft is shutting down its Windows Mixed Reality platform, including the software, app, and Steam VR app, as indicated by an official list of deprecated Windows features. The platform, which aimed to compete with HTC and Oculus in the VR space, will be "removed in a future release of Windows." However, this move does not affect Microsoft's enterprise-focused HoloLens 2, which received upgrades and is being tested by the Army. Microsoft has also halted development on the HoloLens 3 and made cuts in its VR division, but it remains committed to HoloLens and is developing the Mesh app for virtual meetings.
