Chicago on High Alert for Potential Teen Takeover and Violence

The Chicago Police Department flooded Millennium Park with resources on Friday night in response to last weekend's unrest in the Loop. More than 60 CPD vehicles, including a mobile command center, lined Randolph Street near Michigan Avenue. Officers also lined the streets, many near Randolph and Michigan, while pedestrians strolled by on their way into the park. The department said it was keeping an eye on social media and keeping in contact with youth outreach groups as the night went on.

Teenage Crowds Continue to Gather in Downtown Chicago for Second Consecutive Night

Chicago police responded to massive crowds of teenagers at Millennium Park for the second night in a row, following a similar gathering at 31st Street Beach that ended with a teenager being shot. Hundreds, possibly thousands, of teenagers gathered at the beach after seeing flyers on social media. A 14-year-old boy was shot in the thigh, and a vehicle was set on fire. Police arrested one person and are monitoring the situation. Witnesses say the community needs to step up to prevent further incidents.
