"9/11 Pilot Retires, Reflects on Life-Saving Mission"
Lt. Gen. Marc Sasseville, an F-16 pilot who was prepared to undertake a suicide mission to intercept United Airlines Flight 93 on 9/11, has retired after 40 years of service. Sasseville and fellow pilot Heather Penney were ready to ram the hijacked plane to prevent further attacks. The passengers of Flight 93 ultimately thwarted the terrorists, crashing the plane in Pennsylvania. Sasseville, who later became a three-star general, took his final flight from Joint Base Andrews and will now enjoy retirement with his family.
