As the head coach at Florida State University from 1980 to 2019, he led the Seminoles to the NCAA Tournament 40 times and the College World Series 17 times, finishing with a record of 2,029-736-4. Martin's legacy includes being an ambassador for Florida State University and coaching 20 players who were selected in the first round of the MLB Draft, including Buster Posey.
