Hungary's Asylum Policies Ruled Illegal by EU Court
The European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled that Hungary violated EU laws by making it harder for asylum-seekers to apply for protection. The court found that Hungary's requirement for asylum-seekers to first travel to the Hungarian embassies in Serbia or Ukraine to apply for a travel permit breached the bloc's laws and migrants' rights. The judges also found that the regulation, introduced during the pandemic, was not an effective measure to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
