The Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) has moved its state football finals from Friday and Saturday to Saturday and Sunday due to a Michigan State and Penn State game on Friday night at Ford Field. However, this could create a problem for parochial high schools that prefer not to play on Sundays. The MHSAA has said it will work with schools that don't want to play on Sunday, moving their game(s) to Saturday to avoid any problems. The MHSAA's executive director, Mark Uyl, said that "flex scheduling" will be implemented to try and satisfy all of the teams that reach the finals.
Grace Lyons hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining to give Rockford a 40-36 win over West Bloomfield in the MHSAA Division 1 Final, capturing the first Finals title in program history. The win avenged a Semifinal loss from a year ago. Rockford was in the game thanks in large part to the efforts of sophomore Anna Wypych, who finished the game with 20 points and eight rebounds.
