Thailand is experiencing an extreme heat wave, with temperatures reaching up to 43 degrees Celsius in the north and 40 degrees Celsius in the capital, Bangkok. The Meteorological Department has warned people to stay indoors and be wary of sudden summer storms. A police officer collapsed and died of heart stroke due to the heat. The highest heat index was forecast to be 53.8 degrees Celsius in the eastern province of Chonburi. Thailand holds a general election next month.
