May brings surprise winter weather with snow and rain.
The "omega block" weather pattern will bring winter-like conditions to the Valley in the first week of May, with a persistent area of low pressure resulting in well-below average temperatures, rain, and even some snow. Temperatures will struggle to reach the mid-40s on Monday, potentially putting the record lowest high temperature of 45°F for May 1 in jeopardy. The high temperatures to start off the month of May will be 20+ degrees below average for this time of year, and there is the potential for records to be broken. Snow is not uncommon in the month of May, with the snowiest day historically occurring on May 9, 1966.
