Arrests Made in Colorado for Alleged ISIS Recruitment Attempts
An 18-year-old man from Westminster, Colorado, was arrested at Denver International Airport as he attempted to travel overseas to join the Islamic State group as a fighter. The man, identified as Humzah Mashkoor, had been communicating with undercover FBI employees who posed as Islamic State supporters. Mashkoor expressed his intent to join the group, provide financial support, and recruit others. He also discussed conducting an attack in the United States but ultimately decided to travel overseas. Mashkoor purchased tickets to the United Arab Emirates and planned to continue on to Afghanistan or Syria. Journal entries found at his home revealed his commitment to the cause. He has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.
