UConn player's food poisoning claims disputed by Houston steakhouse and former coach.
UConn basketball player Jordan Hawkins claimed he suffered from food poisoning after eating calamari at Mastro's Steakhouse in Houston before the NCAA semifinals against Miami. The restaurant denied the allegation, stating that they sold nearly 100 orders of calamari with no complaints. The team had ordered 13 orders of calamari on Thursday and three more on Sunday for delivery. The restaurant also questioned whether Hawkins had COVID-19 or had been tested after his symptoms began. Despite the accusation, UConn went on to win the NCAA championship.
