Mistrial declared in federal case against Maryland doctors accused of sharing patient information with Russia.
A federal judge declared a mistrial in the spy trial of two Maryland doctors accused of trying to be Russian assets. The jury was deadlocked, with one juror believing the defendants were entrapped and 11 believing they were not. The couple was charged with conspiracy and illegally accessing and sharing patient health files with an undercover agent who they thought was a Russian operative. Both sides agree the records were shared, but the reasons why are in dispute. The defense claimed the defendants were entrapped by the government to commit all of the crimes.
