Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, known for their work on Marvel's Captain Marvel, are returning to their indie roots with the film "Freaky Tales," which will premiere at Sundance. The film, backed independently by Macro and eOne, is an anthology set in 1987 Oakland, combining sci-fi, Blaxploitation, and action-adventure elements. "The Marvels' Director and 'Shang-Chi' Filmmaker: Behind the Scenes of a Stressful Shoot"

Nia DaCosta, director of "The Marvels," sought advice from previous Marvel directors before accepting the directing gig, asking if entering the Marvel world was a good idea. She joked about concerns of being killed or having her soul destroyed by Kevin Feige, but was assured that he is just a good guy and a nerd. During the making of the film, DaCosta would text "Shang-Chi" director Destin Daniel Cretton on tough shoot days. "The Marvels" is a sequel to "Captain Marvel" and is set to open in theaters on November 10.
