Premier Hockey Federation's Shake-Up: New League Launches, Minnesota Whitecaps' Future Uncertain
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) will cease operations after being purchased by the Mark Walter Group and Billie Jean King Enterprises. The move paves the way for a new unified women's professional hockey league in North America, set to launch in January 2024. The new league, supported financially by Mark and Kimbra Walter, aims to provide the resources and infrastructure needed for the best players in the world. A landmark collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is being voted on by players, which includes salaries, benefits, and maternity leave. The NHL may also get involved with the new league, and former PHF players have a path to union membership. Players from the PHF will be released from their contracts and will need to find new teams to play for next season.
