Portland stuns Gonzaga as defense collapses in unexpected upset
Gonzaga suffered an 87-80 upset at home to Portland, in what is described as one of the season’s most unlikely results. Coach Mark Few criticized the Zags’ porous defense, inconsistent rotations, and poor shot selection, noting Portland took open looks and made them while Gonzaga failed to mount sustained stops. Portland guard Joel Foxwell finished with 27 points and eight assists, guiding the Pilots to their first win over an AP Top 10 team as Gonzaga, ranked No. 6 in the AP poll, No. 5 NET, and No. 11 in KenPom, fell short. Few urged his team to bear down and respond with better defense and execution going forward.
