"Container Ship Loses Power Near Verrazzano Bridge, Prompting Emergency Response"

The APL Qingdao, a large container ship, lost propulsion in New York Harbor near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, but was safely anchored with the help of tugboats. This incident, unlike the recent tragedy in Baltimore Harbor, did not result in any casualties. The U.S. Coast Guard clarified that the vessel suffered a "loss of propulsion," not a "loss of power," and ordered certified repairs before allowing the ship to depart. The vessel, owned by CMA CGM, reached Norfolk, Virginia, after the incident.

"Container Ship Loses Power Near Verrazzano Bridge, Comes to Halt"

A 1,145-foot-long container ship, APL Qingdao, lost propulsion in New York's harbour near the Verrazzano Bridge, reminiscent of a recent deadly incident in Baltimore. The ship was assisted by towing vessels and safely anchored outside the navigable channel. After repairs, it departed for Norfolk, Virginia. Unlike the Baltimore tragedy, where the Dali container ship lost power and collided with a bridge, causing fatalities, the APL Qingdao did not lose power, and no casualties were reported.

Missing Sailor Found Safe in Hawaii After Journey from California

The U.S. Coast Guard announced that Noel Rubio, a 60-year-old sailor, and his sailboat, Malulani, arrived safely in Hawaii after being reported missing. Rubio had last made contact on Dec. 28 while en route to Hawaii from Long Beach, California, and had missed his arrival date of Jan. 18. The USCG had sought the maritime community's help in locating him and the sailboat, but did not share details on why communication was lost or why the arrival time was delayed. The USCG emphasized the importance of multiple communication layers for mariners conducting open ocean passages.
