Disneyland's "Fantasmic!" nighttime show returns after a hiatus due to a fire that engulfed its 45-foot dragon. The revamped show, which resumes without the dragon, still features a climactic battle between Mickey Mouse and Maleficent, enhanced with new pyrotechnics, projections, and lighting effects. The show also reintroduces an extended "Peter Pan" segment, replacing a previous "Pirates of the Caribbean" scene. Despite the absence of the dragon, Disney promises a spectacular experience with Maleficent's new portrayal.
During Disneyland's Fantasmic show, the animatronic Maleficent dragon caught fire and was quickly extinguished by Anaheim Fire & Rescue. No injuries were reported, but Disneyland will temporarily stop using "fire effects similar to those used at Disneyland park's Fantasmic at select shows and entertainment experiences globally." This is not the first time the Maleficent dragon has caught fire at a Disney park. Future Fantasmic shows at Disneyland were removed from the schedule, but a similar show at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando will still go on.
