Director Gunasekhar's latest film "Shaakuntalam" is a period drama based on the Kalidasa version of the Mahabharata story of Shakuntala and King Dushyanta. The film lacks emotional depth and fails to capture the assertive nature of the original Mahabharata version of Shakuntala. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dev Mohan deliver impressive performances, while Allu Arjun's daughter Allu Arha brings warmth and freshness to the screen. The 3D conversion is a big letdown. The film receives a rating of 2 stars.
