"Qi2: The Next Generation of Wireless Charging Arrives with Speed Boosts and MagSafe-like Features"
The Wireless Power Consortium has announced the launch of the first Qi2.0 devices, offering faster and more efficient wireless charging with the help of a "Magnetic Power Profile" (MPP) developed in collaboration with Apple's MagSafe team. Qi2-certified devices can achieve 15W charging, bringing them up to the same speed as iPhones on MagSafe chargers. This standardization clears up confusion about charging speeds across different devices and chargers. While Qi2 does not match the speeds of proprietary setups, it brings universal compatibility and magnetic alignment, potentially sparking a wave of magnet-based accessories for Android phones. The Qi2 standards group plans to standardize charging speeds above 15W by mid-2024.
