Weekend Crash Leaves Pedestrian Injured, LPD Investigates

A pedestrian, identified as John Connolly, was seriously injured in a crash on Interstate 27 in Lubbock, Texas. The crash occurred when Connolly pulled over to check on his dogs, and one of them ran onto the highway. As Connolly tried to retrieve the dog, he was struck by an SUV driven by Gabriel Guzman. The investigation is ongoing.

Resignations Shake Up Police Leadership in Lubbock and Overland Park

Lubbock Police Chief Floyd Mitchell has resigned following criticism of the department's 911 dispatch, which left more than 30,000 calls unanswered in 2022. Mitchell, who was appointed chief in 2019, will leave the department on September 22, 2023. The City of Lubbock expressed gratitude for Mitchell's service and will soon name an interim police chief.
