San Francisco-based company Loyal has received conditional approval from the FDA for its anti-aging drug, LOY-001, designed to extend the lifespan of large- and giant-breed dogs. The drug aims to reduce the growth-promoting hormone IGF-1 in adult dogs, addressing the shorter lifespans of larger breeds. If approved, LOY-001 could be available as early as 2026, offering the potential for an extended and healthier life for dogs over the age of 7 and weighing more than 40 pounds. Loyal must still conduct further studies and meet FDA criteria for full approval.
